The band was formed way back in 97 and met in an upstairs function room of the Frog and Bucket pub in Newport, S.Wales. The room had no floor, lighting or real use apart from nearly killing us on several occasions.
Yet beggars cant be choosers and we were getting it rent free, as the landlords were friends. The real danger here was falling through the floor into next doors pub, below. The pub was the infamous 'Log Box', Newport's one and only bummer bar (come on Buff keep it clean)…..I mean it was a gay bar. Of course, visions of us dangling there through the roof after having rocked out a little too much during practice, haunted my youth for many a sleepless night. They, didn't particularly like our brand of punk rock and used to try and drown us out with Soft Cell! Unfortunately, both pubs have now gone.
After several lineup changes, including far too many hippies, the first ITS lineup was born, came up with the band name and looked a little like this.
Flid: Vocals
Payney: Guitar
Kip Xool: Drums
Buffy: Bass
This lineup went on to produce two classic (oh come on if I don't sing our praises, who else is gonna?) 7"eps, Can't Take Anymore and The Fall of the Damned. The first ep CTAM, had a limited press of shite coloured brown vinyl, with government issue toilet paper in.
After a good couple of years of touring and general malarkey, the band was to go through a couple of line up changes which saw us losing a member and gaining two new ones. We said goodbye to Kip and hello to Mike and later Pete, formerly of Spite and Blind Destruction Records fame.
A lot of people wanted to know what was responsible for the split with Kip but I think the words 'difference of artistic direction' are best suited. We went on to cleanup the sound and make it a lot heavier on the album, which is territory Kip wasn't in favour of. We had a rough parting but we are all friendly again now.
Mike was thrown in at the deep end and after only three months of rehearsals went on to record the 'A Cancerous Society' album. Shortly after this we asked Pete, a long time supporter of the ITS cause to join. He's, also done a lot for the sound and we're looking forward to writing new material in the near future.
